Oh dear lord
So much wine
So much wine
My day was rough. Up at 6.30 to get to my last exam by 9, finished that at 11 to get home by 1 and get ready for work at 2. Then when I finished at 7 my car wouldn’t start and after waiting for rac I got home at 8.
So now I am enjoying bed and wine and A Game of Thrones and dreading it all beginning again in the morning when I start work at 6.
Yet whatever anxieties the band feel playing these bigger venues, to Bryce what’s at the core of the band is the bond between them and the connection that their fifteen year history has created. “We spent so many years playing to so few people that we developed a survival instinct and that’s where the core of the band was formed. We’re very lucky - some bands find it difficult translating to that setting but we can enjoy it. It’s not like we’re a different band when we’re playing Glastonbury or playing our own small club show.”

Can we just stop for a second and appreciate that ‘Funny songs about death’ is perhaps one of the most apt and beautiful descriptions of the national and their music that anyone is yet to think up?

“Celebrities Read Tweets About Themselves” (Jimmy Kimmel Live)
In honour of Twitter’s birthday, Jimmy Kimmel rounded up a host of celebrities including Will Ferrell, Jason Bateman, Kristen Bell, Busy Phillips, Will Arnett, Andy Dick, David Cross, Louis CK, Joel McHale, Kevin Nealon, Anna Faris and Kathy Griffin to read tweets about themselves. And it’s funny!
The Uncluded - Delicate Cycle
The Uncluded is an unlikely duo between Kimya Dawson and Aesop Rock. I’d always liked Kimya’s quirky sound but didn’t realize it could get even stranger as the duo sings over each other with barely interweaved lyrics held together by minimal synths and beats. The Uncluded sounds like two slam poets that found a few instruments and made something beautiful by accident. The only difference is these talented folks knew exactly what they were doing.
What holds the album together is how well both artists will talk about the same topic using their own language and style. I chose this song because of Kimya’s section about bottoming out. I wish I could put into words how clever I found her thoughts on the matter to be. I wouldn’t classify the duo’s music as beautiful but I would say it’s real and that’s even better.
